Founded in 1969, Bailard is an independent, values-based asset and wealth management firm distinguished by our entrepreneurial roots and majority employee ownership. Grounded in the principles of accountability, compassion, courage, excellence, fairness, and independence, we have cultivated a high-trust culture that prizes intellectual rigor and personal integrity. We are dedicated to creating an environment where individuals are empowered to grow, thrive, and feel genuinely supported by their team.

Who are you?

As part of the trading team, you will play a key role in facilitating the execution of global equity and fixed income strategies and will be instrumental in contributing to the firm’s long track record of operational excellence.

Your primary focus on the trading desk will be to facilitate trades across our domestic equity strategies. In addition, you will assist with international equity, fixed income, and derivative trading as needed, and assist with settlements, systems updates, and data management. You will also evaluate and ensure efficient execution across international and domestic markets and foreign exchange. This role requires expertise in equity markets, strong and clear communication with portfolio managers, the ability to manage settlement processes and corporate actions, and capacity to balance high priority tasks with ad hoc project related work.

You are a systems-oriented thinker, a collaborative worker, and a diligent executor who thrives in fast moving environments. You readily take ownership of projects and consistently seek to improve systems to drive efficiency and precision.

Responsibilities

  • Execute domestic equity trades as part of a broader trading desk, ensuring precision and timely order completion.
  • Serve as a back-up for international trading operations and FX, stepping in as needed to maintain seamless execution.
  • Provide portfolio managers with detailed market commentary when needed, focusing on domestic equity trading characteristics and trends.
  • Collaborate closely with research and client teams to align trading strategies with broader investment objectives.
  • Communicate trade details to custodians, addressing and resolving any settlement issues with brokers promptly and with reliability and accuracy.
  • Oversee administrative tasks related to trading, ensuring compliance and operational efficiency.
  • Develop and implement best practices for trading desk operations, including risk management and reporting.

Qualifications

  • 5 + years of hands-on trading experience
  • Proven track record in executing trades across diverse markets and asset classes.
  • Deep understanding of trading processes, market characteristics, and corporate actions.
  • Exceptional analytical skills, with the ability to provide actionable market insights.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills to interact effectively with portfolio managers and other stakeholders.
  • Proficiency in portfolio accounting systems and trading platforms.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills, particularly in resolving settlement issues and optimizing trade execution.
  • Proven ability to lead small teams and complete ad hoc projects related to automation efficiency, and identifying and adopting industry best practices.
  • Advanced Excel skills; experience with Bloomberg, FactSet, or similar platforms
  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • Completion of a written and verbal assessment as part of the interview process

Preferred

  • Exposure to Indata
  • Knowledge of DTCC (DTC Software, CTM, Alert)
  • Knowledge of FXConnect/GTSS
  • CFA designation or progress toward it
  • Master’s degree in finance, economics, or related field
