Cleanroom Lab Technician

Job Description

The Cleanroom Technician (Lab) operates advanced analytical and semiconductor processing equipment in a controlled cleanroom environment to support wafer testing, quality control, and process development. This role prepares and analyzes samples using a variety of chemicals, evaluates test results, maintains instruments and documentation, and collaborates closely with engineering and production teams to deliver accurate data in a timely manner.

Responsibilities

  • Operate advanced analytical instruments, including ICP-MS and Autoscanner, to perform routine and non-routine analyses.
  • Prepare and test wafer samples using a variety of chemicals and wet chemistry techniques while following established procedures.
  • Operate 200mm and 300mm furnaces for wafer processing in accordance with standard operating procedures.
  • Use microscopes to perform detailed visual inspection of wafer surfaces and identify defects and irregularities.
  • Evaluate and interpret test results, ensuring accuracy and completeness, and report findings promptly to plant personnel.
  • Apply quality control and statistical process control techniques as part of routine analysis and data review.
  • Assist laboratory engineers in troubleshooting and resolving routine instrument and equipment issues.
  • Perform routine preventive maintenance on analytical instruments and related equipment as needed.
  • Support training and cross-training activities within the laboratory department by sharing knowledge and best practices.
  • Write, revise, and maintain SOP/SWP documentation and work instructions, including using document control systems such as Master Control.
  • Work independently or as part of a team on non-routine projects, special studies, and process improvement initiatives.
  • Manage multiple tasks concurrently, set appropriate priorities, and adjust to changing demands and deadlines.
  • Follow strict contamination control and safety procedures when working with concentrated acids, bases, and other hazardous chemicals.
  • Collect, organize, and document data accurately in electronic systems, ensuring traceability and compliance with quality standards.

Essential Skills

  • AS degree or equivalent, or at least 2 years of experience in a process manufacturing environment, or a combination of education and experience.
  • Knowledge of basic chemistry, physics, or engineering principles relevant to laboratory and process operations.
  • Hands-on experience with quality control practices and inspection in a laboratory or manufacturing setting.
  • Ability to perform wet chemistry techniques such as titrations and sample preparation using various chemicals.
  • Capability to operate and understand analytical instruments, including ICP-MS, HPLC, and other laboratory equipment.
  • Proficiency in using precision measuring tools and analytical instruments to obtain accurate and reliable data.
  • Familiarity with production processes, measurement methods, and quality systems in a manufacturing environment.
  • Understanding of data collection, statistical analysis, and statistical process control (SPC) for monitoring process performance.
  • Strong planning, organizational, and basic project management skills to handle multiple concurrent tasks.
  • Ability to learn new tasks, methods, and technologies quickly and apply them effectively in daily work.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Intermediate-level computer skills in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Access or similar office applications.
  • Experience working in a laboratory or cleanroom environment with contamination control requirements.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills to document results, update procedures, and collaborate with cross-functional teams.
  • Experience with Master Control or similar electronic document control systems for managing SOPs and work instructions.
  • Exposure to semiconductor wafer processing, including furnace operations and microscopic inspection, is beneficial.
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize work in a fast-paced, results-driven environment and meet tight deadlines.
  • Attention to detail and accuracy when performing measurements, recording data, and reviewing test results.

Work Environment

You will work primarily in a cleanroom environment that follows strict contamination control practices, including the use of appropriate personal protective equipment and adherence to detailed protocols. The role involves regular handling of hazardous chemicals, including concentrated acids and bases, with robust safety procedures in place. You will spend extended periods working at a computer and performing fine hand motions and dexterous tasks, such as sample preparation and microscopic inspection. The position may require occasionally lifting up to 55 lbs and moving between various environments and departments across the site. Work hours may be flexible to meet testing deadlines and provide timely results, and you should be comfortable working under time pressure while maintaining high standards of quality and safety.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Vancouver, WA.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $19.00 - $24.00/hr.
