Description

The Biomedical Equipment Technician (BMET) - Level III is responsible for performing inspections, calibrations, diagnostics, maintenance, and repairs on a wide range of medical and non-medical support equipment, including but not limited to medical package tools, generators, and environmental control units. The BMET -Level III ensures all work is conducted in compliance with original equipment manufacturer (OEM) guidance, DoD instructions, applicable regulations, and unit directives. This role requires technical expertise, attention to detail, and adherence to established procedures to maintain equipment reliability and operational readiness.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Ensure that the biomedical equipment is in compliance with Federal, State, and/or applicable regulatory requirements; implement quality control standards and maintain budget and vendor relationships.
  • Repair, install, maintain, calibrate, and inspect complex medical equipment, instrumentation, and systems.
  • Assign routine repairs, inspections, and installations to subordinates and observe their performance.
  • Perform preventive maintenance and electrical safety testing of clinical equipment, devices, and systems, and monitor completion of preventive maintenance activities performed by outside vendors (when applicable).
  • Review outcome of preventive maintenance actions and make recommendations to department staff concerning improvements.
  • Perform complex technical inspections of new, used or reconditioned military medical equipment.
  • Recommend new equipment and testing procedures.
  • Must follow original equipment manufacturer guidance, AFI, regulations and unit direction.
  • Perform routine inspections, preventive maintenance, and calibration of biomedical equipment to ensure compliance with manufacturer specifications and safety regulations.
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot malfunctions in medical devices, performing necessary repairs or coordinating with vendors for service when required.
  • Maintain detailed service records, documenting repairs, maintenance actions, and performance evaluations.
  • Assist in the installation and configuration of new biomedical equipment, ensuring proper functionality.
  • Life cycle management, diagnostics, maintenance, and repair of medical and non-medical support equipment (oxygen generating systems, radiographic diagnostics equipment, life support systems, etc.).
  • Determines associated support items of equipment in order to perform scheduled services and maintenance repairs and calibration; supply support and provisioning requirements; and training requirements.
  • Prepares necessary support documentation and purchase requisitions of parts.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Travel

  • 10% to 25% Travel is required.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree is desired but may not be required if the minimum field experience requirement is met.
  • Must have graduated from the DoD Biomedical Maintenance Course or an accredited civilian Biomedical Maintenance Course.
  • Must graduate from the Planmeca digital dental course no later than 12 months after start.
  • Minimum 10 years of field experience (minimum of four years as a level II BMET) in managing: initial inspections, calibrations, diagnostics, maintenance, life cycle management, repair of medical equipment, equipment acquisition, and safety within OEM guidance and local/state/federal regulations.
  • Advanced degree in a related field, preferred.
  • Must provide documentation of eligibility to legally work in the United States without an employer sponsored visa.
  • Must be able to pass client background screening for security clearance.

Salary

  • $80,000-$85,000 annual
